Grayson College’s Cosmetology programs may be completed in one year or less and offer more affordable tuition rates when compared to private training programs.
GC students train in a modern salon environment and earn experience hours with patrons from the community. The Cosmetology Salon is located in the Career and Technology Center on the Main Campus. Training options include:
The one-year Cosmetology Certificate program prepares students with professional skills for hair styling, manicures, pedicures, skincare, hair shaping, chemical reformation, principles of hair coloring, and other related courses.
The Cosmetology to Barber Certificate program prepares students with professional skills specifically related to barbering (hair cutting, straight-razor shaving, etc.). It is a 16 credit hour certificate program designed for those who currently hold a cosmetology license, where upon completion of the program, students are awarded a certificate of graduation and are then eligible to apply for the State Board Barber Examination. Students who successfully complete the state exam will then become a licensed Barber.
The Barber and Cosmetology Core Certificate program prepares students in the basics of both cosmetology and barbering. This 25 credit hour certificate program addresses the common curriculum for both the Class 1 Barber and Cosmetology tracks and allows students to move forward attaining training requirements to earn a license to operate in the State of Texas.
The Class A Barber Certificate program prepares students with professional skills related to cosmetology (hair styling, manicures, pedicures, skincare, hair shaping, chemical reformation, principles of hair coloring) and barbering (hair cutting, straight-razor shaving, etc.). It is a 41 credit hour certificate program where upon completion of the program, students are awarded a certificate of graduation and are then eligible to apply for the State Board Barber Examination. Students who successfully complete the state exam will then become a licensed Barber.
The Nail Technician Certificate program prepares students with professional skills in manicuring, nail structure and growth, advance nail techniques, and other related courses. It is a 5 month one semester certificate program, where successful students earn certificates of graduation and then are eligible to apply for the State Board Examination. Students who successfully complete the state exam will then become a licensed Nail Technician.
The Esthetician and Skin Care Specialist Certificate program prepares students with professional skills for skin-care and other related courses. It is a 9 month certificate program, where upon completion of the program, students are awarded certificates of graduation and are then eligible to apply for the State Board Examination. Students who successfully complete the state exam will then become a licensed Esthetician and Skin Care Specialist.
Students should contact the Office of Admissions and Records prior to enrollment. Prerequisites for Cosmetology are CSME 1401 and CSME 1405, and the prerequisite for Esthetics is CSME 1348 with a passing grade of 70%.
