AAS Degree Requirements

The Surgical Technology Program at Grayson College is an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Surgical Technology.

The Associates of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Surgical Technology is designed to prepare the student to function effectively as an integral part of the operating room team. The AAS degree consists of in-person lectures, in-person lab, mock surgeries, and clinicals within a four-county radius in addition to the academic coursework. The Surgical Technology Program is a three-semester program that begins every fall semester. The academic coursework must be taken before the surgical technology coursework begins. Following the completion of all coursework the student will be able to sit for the NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting) Certification Exam. Grayson college Surgical Technology Program has applied for accreditation to ARC (Accreditation Review Council) the process begins with the first class.

Program Learning Outcomes

To prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
To prepare students to function professionally, caring, and ethically when providing patient care.
To prepare students to function as a part of the healthcare profession
To prepare students to complete the Surgical Technologist National Certifying Examination conducted by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
To provide the community with professional, competent, desirable employees and entry-level Surgical Technologists.
To recruit and retain quality students who are enthusiastic and motivated to become professional, competent Surgical Technologists.
To admit the most qualified applicants according to the admissions policy each summer

Attendance of information session
2.0 GPA in all prerequisite courses
HESI Surgical Technology Exam (must pass each section with a 70)
All science coursework completed within 5 years
Eligible for Math 1310/ taken college algebra within 5 years
